Comic Corner #11

I created Comic Corner to bring my love of all things comics to my blog. These posts will feature different comic type things like trailers, movie reviews, History of different characters, and so on.

Oh my goodness it has been a long while since I've done one of these. I'm feeling so bad since I was so excited to finally get everything settled for these posts.

Today I'm just going to do a general update as to what I've been reading and then I'm going to schedule a couple more of these for the upcoming month and year.

Currently Reading:
FULL COVER CHARGE! Club Fenris is the most exclusive nightspot in New York City…even a king has trouble getting in! T'Challa needs to get into VIP no matter what Piledriver and Thunderball say about the guest list…Still, without the Wakandan gods looking over his shoulder, there's no telling what trouble T'Challa will get into…

Review: This series is still going strong and I'm enjoying it very much. I love Black Panther and am loving this new twist of his story with him being in space.

After suffering an unimaginable loss, Wonder Woman must rebuild her mission as Earth’s ultimate protector and champion.

DON’T MISS: NEW YORK TIMES best-selling writer Greg Rucka returns to Wonder Woman with a tale that will forever alter the DC icon.

Review: Wonder Woman has been a bit up and down for me but overall has been pretty good. I like her a lot so it's been interesting to read so many different authors takes on her character.

“THE TOTALITY” part one! A brand-new era begins here! Comics legends Scott Snyder and Jim Cheung launch the Justice League into a cosmos-shaking mystery that will draw out their most terrible foes…in ways, our heroes couldn’t possibly imagine! In this debut issue, Martian Manhunter struggles to protect the team from an incoming threat that will shatter the world as they know it, while a familiar face strikes out on a dark path…

Review: This part of the Justice League had me on the edge of my seat flipping through the issues like the house was on fire. I absolutely loved this.

IT IS WINTER IN AMERICA.For over 70 years, he has stood in stalwart defense of our country and its people. But in the aftermath of Hydra’s takeover of the nation, Captain America is a figure of controversy, carrying a tarnished shield…and a new enemy is rising! Who are the Power Elite? And how do they intend to co-opt and corrupt the symbol that is Captain America?

Review: This is another one of my husbands favorites that I picked up and very much enjoyed. I love that the depiction of Cap in the comics is very similar to the one in the movies.

Series Completed:

Brian Michael Bendis (Miles Morales: Ultimate Spider-Man, Superman, Daredevil) and Alex Maleev (Infamous Iron Man, Scarlet, Spider-Woman) weave their unique blend of crime noir to rock the DC Universe to its core in their latest masterpiece that will be talked about for years to come!

Review: Event Leviathan was super good and short. It was a lovely 6 issues and was jam-packed with action, mystery, and characters I just love. I wouldn't necessarily recommend this story if you haven't started reading comics before. Goodreads

THE WAR IS OVER – AND THE MARVEL UNIVERSE MUST PICK UP THE PIECES! Midgard is broken, and as heroes of Asgard and Earth alike start to sift through the pieces, new heroes — and villains — emerge. What’s next for Jane Foster, now free of the hammer she was willing to die to hold? Thor’s brother Loki faced a terrible fate in the War of the Realms — and now the god of mischief must make himself anew. For the Punisher, the war isn’t even close to finished — but this time, he’s got his own army. And for Thor himself, destiny has finally arrived. The God of Thunder strikes out for a whole new adventure!

Review: The War of the Realms was fantastic. It was action-packed and full of death and amazing characters who were getting knocked down but kept getting up. I have to say a huge favorite part of this one was when Matt Murdock (Daredevil) got to work with Heimdall. This is another one that had 6 issues included.

The world fell in love with her in Marvel’s Black Panther. Now, T’Challa’s techno-genius sister launches her own adventures — written by best-selling Afrofuturist author Nnedi Okorafor and drawn by Eisner Award-nominated artist Leonardo Romero! T’Challa has disappeared, and everyone is looking at the next in line for the throne. Wakanda expects Shuri to take on the mantle of Black Panther once more and lead their great nation — but she’s happiest in a lab, surrounded by her own inventions. She’d rather be testing gauntlets than throwing them down! So it’s time for Shuri to go rescue her brother yet again — with a little help from Storm, Rocket Raccoon and Groot, of course! But when her outer-space adventure puts the entire cultural history of her continent at risk from an energy-sapping alien threat, can Shuri and Iron Man save Africa?

Review: This was another short one, with 10 issues, and it was so good. I'm sure they only made this short series due to the Black Panther movie, but I greatly enjoyed it. I love Shuri as she's so smart and just enjoyable to read about what's going on on Earth while Black Panther is off in space.

P.S. This first trade which includes books 1-5 is free on Amazon as of this post. Goodreads

Green Arrow's life will be forever changed as he is betrayed by those closest to him! A budding relationship with Black Canary forces Ollie to confront the fact that he can't fight "the man" if he is "the man." And one by one, his friends desert him-and all the money in the world won't bring them back when he needs them most.

Review: Finishing this series was a long time coming of 45 issues. I loved it from beginning to end. Having my husband love this character so much, watching the show, and then falling in love with the character just as much, was one of those amazing things that had me loving comics so much more and struggling to watch the Arrow show for some time.

P.S. The first issue with issues 1-5 is free on KindleUnlimited as of this post. Goodreads
It’s the Martian Manhunter and Charnn’s last confrontation! To save the souls of every human on Earth, J’onn must put his past behind him for good and become the hero we know him to be. But Charnn won’t make it easy; he’s going to strike at every vulnerability and weakness the Martian Manhunter has.

Review: My favorite character is Martian Manhunter. Well, one of them. I also love Ms. Martian. I was so. excited when I saw that he was going to be getting his own books and grabbed ahold of the story with both hands. 12 issues this is the perfect series to grab to get your introduction into the world of comic books.

That's it for this week. Did any of these interest you?
