Did Not Finish: Shame or Reader Accomplishment?

Well, it's that time of the month again. Not that time of the month. It's discussion time! I wanted to discuss one of the most dreaded endings when trying to get through a book. DNFing a book.

I have to say when I first began taking on book reviews from authors I struggled to ever say no and I also struggled to put down a book when I wasn't enjoying it. I always thought it was too shameful to put down a book without finishing it.

After some time I have been realizing that not finishing a book doesn't make me a loser. Seriously, I felt so much shame for not finishing a book. Like there was something wrong with me for not finishing a book.

Now though I have to say it's great to finally put all that aside and just be happy to say a book is not for me. I wasted so much time trying to get through books I didn't enjoy that I wasted time not reading books I actually wanted to read.

I don't have a huge pile of books I haven't finished or anything. About 30 books altogether. Not too bad for someone who read 300+ books a year.

If you need some advice on DNFing a book I thought these articles were enjoyable:

How about you?
Do you feel shame at putting down a book unfinished?
Anything help you be able to feel okay with DNFing a book?
