Eveline Armstrong is fiercely loved and protected by her powerful clan, but outsiders consider her “touched.” Beautiful, fey, with a level, intent gaze, she doesn’t speak. No one, not even her family, knows that she cannot hear. Content with her life of seclusion, Eveline has taught herself to read lips and allows the outside world to view her as daft. But when an arranged marriage into a rival clan makes Graeme Montgomery her husband, Eveline accepts her duty—unprepared for the delights to come. Graeme is a rugged warrior with a voice so deep and powerful that his new bride can hear it, and hands and kisses so tender and skilled that he stirs her deepest passions.

Graeme is intrigued by the mysterious Eveline, whose silent lips are ripe with temptation and whose bright, intelligent eyes can see into his soul. As intimacy deepens, he learns her secret. But when clan rivalries and dark deeds threaten the wife he has only begun to cherish, the Scottish warrior will move heaven and earth to save the woman who has awakened his heart to the beautiful song of a rare and magical love.

My Review:
OH MY GOSH, I LOVED LOVED LOVED THIS BOOK!!!!! I got this book from the library and immediately after finishing this book I went out and bought a copy. No lie! I had the book and re-read it a couple days later. I loved this book so very much.

Eveline Armstrong and Graeme Montgomery have just been forced by the king to get married to combine the two divided families of Scotland. Graeme and his family see this as a death sentence since the rumor surrounding Eveline is that she unfit to be a wife and is “touched” by the fey. Eveline actually lost her hearing after trying to escape her home one day when her father wanted her to get married to a disgusting terrible man. Ever since she has refused to speak, but she can read the lips of the people around her. Her clan doesn’t know and neither does her family. When she meets Graeme, she can hear and feel his vibrations from his voice and can’t wait to move from her home since she thinks she can finally be free to be herself. Except Graeme’s clan treats her terribly time and time again, breaking her down.

Eveline was an amazing character. Even though she’d suffered time and time again she remains so strong. She goes through a lot of crap with both her own family and her husband’s clan and remains so strong. I seriously loved her.

Graeme was an amazing character as well. He’s a great king and he cares about everyone. Even though he doesn’t want to marry Eveline he is the only one to treat her like an equal. I loved his character from start to finish.

Despite the cover and title, I didn’t feel like this story was a romance story specifically. I felt like there was a lot of character development that leads to romance and while that was part of the story, I didn’t think it was only a romance. The cover is kind of misleading in that it seems the story is only a romance, but I didn’t think that was accurate.

Ah, I loved this book. There's action and amazing characters and friendships and yes romance. The pacing of this story was done very well and the writing was amazing. This is the second book I’ve read by Maya Banks and I am definitely hooked.

Hi, and welcome to my home on the internet!
My name is Maya Banks and I live in Texas with my husband and three children and our assortment of pets. I’m more of a cat person, but my daughter became convinced she NEEDED a dog. So convinced in fact that it became her mission to convince her father and me. She prepared a two page handwritten proposal that detailed WHY she needed a dog, and well, after I sent her to her father (I knew he wouldn’t tell her no) we embarked on the search for the perfect dog. The journey that was two hours away and that I got pulled over for speeding while I was on the phone with my agent who had an offer from a publisher for one of my books… The officer wasn’t impressed. He wrote me a ticket anyway. Thus, I now tell my daughter that her dog turned into one very expensive concession! But isn’t he cute?

When I’m not writing, I love to hunt and fish with my family. We all love the outdoors and go on family hunting trips every year. We also love to travel. One of our more recent trips was to Scotland, which was every bit as comical as National Lampoon’s European Vacation. You know the part about “Look kids, Big Ben, Parliament” as they went round and round the roundabouts? Yeah, that was us, only we couldn’t even get out of the airport in Glasgow without hitting three of those suckers.

Perhaps the most rewarding aspect of a writing career is getting to meet so many wonderful readers. There’s nothing better than dishing books with someone who loves the romance genre as much as I do. Romance readers are passionate and vocal. We love our books, love our happily ever afters, and we love to spend time talking to others about our favorites. THIS is why I love my job so much, and I’m so grateful to readers who gave ME a chance when I began my career. So thank you.
