Monthly Recap: April

Whew! All I can say is thank goodness April is over. I had about one actual good week this month. No lie, this month was a big bag of suck-a-tude. I got into a car accident this month and damaged half of my car. Wouldn't have been so bad if my car had collision insurance, which it did not. So yeah that was just craptastic. Oh, and the last day of April my poor husband was at his school UNC-Charlotte when the shooting happened there. So personal life stuff has been a bit crappy. I was finally able to go on Spring Break this month. It was very helpful in getting me prepared to work through the rest of the year. I got to see my family, go to the bookstore (SEE STS from SB), and go shopping for weddings I'm going to this summer.

Work is very hectic this month and the number of referrals I've gotten this month and the amount of time I've been given to complete them have been laughable in a non-fun way. I've also had some issues with some of my co-workers being rude to me this month and now I am picking up some of her caseload which has been a real delight...

Nonbookish Stuff:
My Life:
Bradley got me concert tickets to see Jess Glynne and Leon Bridges. Not the best concert, but he and I had a great time.

My mom and Aunt helped me throw a 70th surprise B-day party. My mom and Papa share a birthday so the Barbie cake is for her.

The husbanator and I went to see Avenger's Endgame on release day. So dang good.

Husbanator and I got a new fridge. Earlier this month I slipped and smacked my knee cap straight on out floor. Our freezer was leaking. So we ordered a new fridge. Very happy with it. Lots of space!

Song of the Month:
My sister-in-law showed me this one when she came to visit and it's been stuck in my head ever since.

Bookish Stuff:
Reading Update:

  • I read 24 books this month. I'm in a bit of a rut this month so I've struggled to find books I want to read.
  • My Goodreads challenge is set at 150 this year. About 150 less than usual. I've read 110 books as of the end of this month.
  • On my blog, I posted 51 posts this month. Seems like I'll always be posting more posts than I days in the year.

Favorite Book(s) of the Month:
These three books were marvelous! Downfall's review has already been posted (HERE), and I'm hoping to have the other two up before July. All three of these had me on the edge of my seat.

Book(s) that Surprised Me:
This book was a lot of fun. I enjoyed this book a whole lot and would definitely re-read at some point.

Goals for the Year and My Progress
1. Continuing to stay on top of my book reviews. I did complete shit this month on this. Terrible.

2. Continue commenting regularly on other blogs. I feel like I did better at the beginning of the month than at the end of the month.

3. Finish a couple series on my bookshelves. I finally finished one! I know it doesn't seem like a lot, but I'm feeling proud.

4. Writing; I want to finish at least one of my books this year. I got no reading done this month, but I'm hoping May will go better.

5. Working towards self-compassion. I had mentioned this goal back in January and February and realized I needed to add it to my goal collection. I have officially started doing 5 minutes of mindfulness every day at lunch. I also had two therapy sessions this month so I'm feeling pretty good about this goal.

6. Book buying limit. As I mentioned earlier in the year the husbantor and I have made a deal about my excessive book buying problem. Our promise? For every 15 books I read that I own: on actual and e-book, I can buy 1 book. As of now, I have read 21 books. I'm super proud of myself. I have only bought one book for a pre-order this year (Jay Crownover). Feeling pretty good about it. We'll see how the rest of the year goes. I also got four freebie books this month!

Amazon updated their App so I can know which books I have on my account from publishers and from my own buying and I spent a whole day updating it so I know that I how bad my problem is now.
7. Discussion posts: My hope was to get more discussion posts this year. I have been very excited to say that I've gotten three posted this year and one this month. This month's post was about waiting on books forever to be published. You can see the full link to my Discussion posts HERE, and the link to this months post HERE.

What's Happening in May:
Honest to goodness I have no idea what will be happening this May. I have a lot of work to catch up on and have to finish all my open cases: 30. So that'll be something.

I've also hit a bad reading rut this month so I'm insanely behind on my book reviews.

So my hope is just to make it to June.

How was everyone's April and please tell me it was better than mine!
