He is the one that never looks her way.
He is handsome and strong.
He is rough around the edges and mean.
He is everything she’s ever wanted.
He doesn’t even know she exists.
Her life is a joke.
She doesn’t step on cracks in the sidewalk.
She laughs at inappropriate times.
She talks when she shouldn’t.
She is clumsy and trips on air.
She is finally on his radar.
God help her now.
My Review:Lani Lynn Vale has done it again everyone. Written a very fun cast of characters with style.
Hissy Fit was a very fun read that I couldn't put down. Which was very problematic seeing as I was at work on my "lunch break" while reading it. Needless to say, no work got done after lunch.
Raleigh is very accident prone. When walking into a Target reading an erotic book she trips (on air) and goes tumbling into a billion tubes of wrapping paper. This incident causes 3 others to fall and her longtime crush to trip and drop a giant box of condoms on her nose, causing it to bleed and leaving her with two black eyes. No joke. I felt bad, but it was also hilarious and relatable. Well, not the nose bleed part but definitely tripping on air and landing on things. This is the first time Ezra (Raleigh's longtime crush) has ever noticed her. Ever. Despite the long years, they'd been in high school, college, and working together. Now that he sees her though, he doesn't want to let her out of his sight.
Ezra is the coach that everyone knows and loves and before that, he was the big football star. Everyone loved him and adored him. When he finally pulls his out of where ever it was he finally sees Raleigh. I really enjoyed reading about how he viewed her. She was always keeping him on his toes and constantly making him reevaluate who he was as a person. Despite feeling a little bad about this I really liked reading the scenes where he realized he'd been a jerk to Raleigh over the years. When he went all in for her I thought it was fantastic and just adorable.
This book was a lot of fun. I enjoyed every bit of this story. Raleigh was a great character with a heart of gold. She's suffered through some trauma herself, which I think made this story more enjoyable. I was constantly waiting for Raleigh to injure herself and it was always in a very embarrassing way. She has literally the worst luck.
If I have one complaint it would be Ezra's character. Not that I didn't love him, because I did and I loved reading chapters and sections from his perspective. However, I felt his part of the story at times were a bit rushed. Like he went from not seeing Raleigh to being in love almost immediately. Now while I also fell in love with Raleigh right away, I felt like as the reader I spent more time with her than Ezra did before he fell in love. It just felt very sudden and rushed and I wished we could have had more development there. This is a very smallish aspect of the book that made it go from a 5 star to a 4.5 star in my personal opinion.
The rest of this book was fantastic. I loved the characters and how they had lives outside of the relationship that had with each other. We got to see (read) Raleigh and Ezra teach and cook and do a slew of other activities that weren't driving around sex. I loved that Ezra took pictures of Raleigh while she slept in a big drool puddle. Their relationship and the characters and the world felt real and lived in.
Overall, Hissy Fit is a must read. I'm not entirely understanding of the title really, but it was a fantastic story. The pacing was good for the most part, the story was fun and original, and the characters and the world felt real and lived in.
