Hell is looking for a way to break loose…

Jax lost the genetic lottery. Descended from Cain, the world's first murderer, he's plagued by a curse that demands violence in exchange for his happiness. He left everything behind, including the girl he loved, but thriving on the pain of others is lonely… And it's killing him.

After a series of heartbreaking losses, Samantha put rubber to pavement and headed for college as fast as her clunker could carry her. But she can't outrun her problems. When an attack at school drives her back home, she's thrown into the path of a past—and a guy—she's been trying to forget.

Sam strains Jax's control over his darkness, but running isn't an option this time. Someone—or, something—followed her home from school: a ruthless monster with a twisted plan centuries in the making. Forced together to survive, and fighting an attraction that could destroy them both, Jax and Sam must stop a killer bent on revenge.
My Review:
I won this book a while back from Teresa from Readers Lives a Thousand Lives. Thank you, oodles Teresa!

Jax is a descendant from Cain the world’s first murder. The curse has gone down the line year after year and chose Jax, who now shares his body and mind with a demon.  Jax is not a good guy. He tries his best, but he has urges to kill things almost constantly. He can only go so long without hurting someone or killing something before his body starts to shut down. When he almost killed his twin brother as destiny foretold, he took off and left his family and the only woman he’s ever loved, Sam. Now he’s back and Sam is in trouble.

Jax is one bad dude. Like he exudes the bad boy persona and lives it too. Despite having to hurt and kill people on a constant he tries to make sure they aren’t innocent people. I liked Jax, I think he was given a bad hand and does the best he can with the hand he’s been dealt.

As for his love interest Sam, I liked her a whole lot. She’s a badass in her own right, never taking the easy way out. She handles the fact that there are supernatural beings out there fairly well and she copes the best she can with trying to save and protect Jax and in part his demon who maybe kind of likes her too. Despite needing to be saved a bunch of times, she also does some saving of her own for the greater good and I liked her a lot. I think she’s given up a lot and I’m hoping she’ll find her happy ending.

I really enjoyed Ruined which kind of surprised me even though it shouldn’t have. I was reading this book at a point in my life where I either liked a book right away or I hated them. It was a very low point for me and it stunk. Thankfully this one fell in the realm of the likes and for good reason. Jus Accardo is an amazing author who gives every story and character their own unique personality and takes an old story and twists it in a new way. I definitely felt for all the characters and I liked how the bad guys weren’t evil von bad guy. They had their reasons and I can’t wait to find out more.

JUS ACCARDO spent her childhood reading and learning to cook. Determined to follow in her grandfather’s footsteps as a chef, she applied and was accepted to the Culinary Institute of America. But at the last minute, she realized her true path lay with fiction, not food.

Jus is the bestselling author of the popular Denazen series from Entangled publishing, as well as the Darker Agency series, and the New Adult series, The Eternal Balance. A native New Yorker, she lives in the middle of nowhere with her husband, three dogs, and sometimes guard bear, Oswald.
