Review: Wicked by Jennifer L. Armentrout

A Wicked Sage #1
Kindle Edition, 300 pages
Published December 8th 2014

Things are about to get Wicked in New Orleans.

Twenty-two year old Ivy Morgan isn’t your average college student. She, and others like her, know humans aren’t the only thing trolling the French Quarter for fun… and for food. Her duty to the Order is her life. After all, four years ago, she lost everything at the hands of the creatures she’d sworn to hunt, tearing her world and her heart apart.

Ren Owens is the last person Ivy expected to enter her rigidly controlled life. He’s six feet and three inches of temptation and swoon-inducing charm. With forest-green eyes and a smile that’s surely left a stream of broken hearts in its wake, he has an uncanny, almost unnatural ability to make her yearn for everything he has to offer. But letting him in is as dangerous as hunting the cold-blooded killers stalking the streets. Losing the boy she loved once before had nearly destroyed her, but the sparking tension that grows between them becomes impossible for Ivy to deny. Deep down, she wants… she needs more than what her duty demands of her, what her past has shaped for her.

But as Ivy grows closer to Ren, she realizes she’s not the only one carrying secrets that could shatter the frail bond between them. There’s something he’s not telling her, and one thing is for certain. She’s no longer sure what is more dangerous to her—the ancient beings threatening to take over the town or the man demanding to lay claim to her heart and her soul.

Reese's Review:
I adore JLA’s magical books, but I was totally hating her after I read Wicked. Seriously never has a book made me so freaking hungry in my life. Almost ever page was filled with New Orleans deliciousness. Almost every place mentioned in Wicked I had eaten about a year ago when I went to RT so yeah sadness.

Wicked was fantastic. I swear I really don’t know how JLA continues to come out with such amazing stuff.

Ivy lost her family twice and her boyfriend all in one night. Now Ivy is fighting for the Order, a secret elite group who hunts fey who cross over into this world. When she’s attacked by something nobody else seems to know about, a creature whom iron doesn’t effect and the Order refuses to believe, Ivy knows everything is about to change. Enter the very hot Ren who has a lot of secrets and is very yummy… so so yummy. He becomes Ivy’s partner while she heals and they begin to uncover what is happening that’s changing why Order members are dying.

Ivy our main character has lost a lot and she doesn’t want to get hurt again. She pushes Ren away at the beginning I liked that since it amped up the sexual and romantic tension between them. Ivy has a best friend and a secret fairy living in her house named Tink who I LOVED! Best character yet. Ivy goes to college and then hunts the things that go bump in the night. I liked Ivy a lot, she’s a lot like Kat and Alex.

Ren is a hot piece of man who has transferred to New Orleans to help stop the upcoming battle between the fey and the world. He’s on a secret undercover mission. I liked Ren a lot and I can’t decide if he’s my favorite or not…nah I love all of JLA’s men equally. Anyway he’s charming and swoon worthy but also a total badass who can kick some serious butt.

I don’t want to give anything away, but I will say that I was not surprised by the ending but what happens with Ivy’s friend really freaking sucked monkey butt. Fabulous story.
