Cleaning Up My TBR Pile #13

I saw this on an amazing blog called Lisa Loves Literature and I immediately fell in love with the idea. It originally comes from a blog called Lost in a Story. It's all about cleaning up our generally overflowing TBR pile, and I for one need some real help with that.

Anyway, it works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

If it can kill you-- how can it be love?

When Evie Parker meets Lucas Spencer she begins to feel hope again. Lately, she's been going through life in a fog and Lucas is all about teaching her how to have fun again. For the first time since the accident, she knows what it means to be happy.

So who cares if Lucas is a little odd. It isn't that strange that she's never met his parents, or that teachers never seem to notice when he's late for class. Evie tries not to care, but on top of all his peculiar behavior, she's been feeling kind of sick lately-- ever since she met Lucas actually.

When Lucas decides it is time to come clean with all his secrets Evie has to make some hard decisions.

Thoughts: Idk how I feel about this description. It feels like I've read several books similar and I'm kind of put off by the volume 1 note on the front.

Unprepared for the level of deception and betrayal she faces as she journeys Upwards to battle her enemies, it's not long before Rachel finds herself on a quest that will alter the lives of everyone she knows.

Including Rachel's...

Thoughts: This description is kind of vague and I can't really guess what it's about.

Decision: Toss

Following the unexpected death of her father, 18-year-old Layken is forced to be the rock for both her mother and younger brother. Outwardly, she appears resilient and tenacious, but inwardly, she's losing hope.

Enter Will Cooper: The attractive, 21-year-old new neighbor with an intriguing passion for slam poetry and a unique sense of humor. Within days of their introduction, Will and Layken form an intense emotional connection, leaving Layken with a renewed sense of hope.

Not long after an intense, heart-stopping first date, they are slammed to the core when a shocking revelation forces their new relationship to a sudden halt. Daily interactions become impossibly painful as they struggle to find a balance between the feelings that pull them together, and the secret that keeps them apart.

Thoughts: I've heard such great things about this book and Colleen Hoover. I have yet to read anything by her, but I do own some of her books.

Decision: Keep, for now.

Meghan Chase is finally getting used to being the Iron Queen, ruler of the Iron Fey. Her life may be strange, but with former Winter prince Ash by her side, at last, she wouldn’t have it any other way.

But when they travel to the Summer and Winter courts’ gathering for Elysium, the oracle from Meghan’s past returns with a dire prophecy: “What you carry will either unite the courts, or it will destroy them.” Now Meghan faces a devastating choice that may determine the future of all fey—and her and Ash’s unborn child…

A novella from the bestselling Iron Fey series

Thoughts: This is one of the last books in this series I haven't read and I enjoy Julie Kagawa's writing.

Decision: Keep

Seventeen-year-old Pride is a tracker—a werewolf with a hunger for blood. Taught to trick and to lure, she is the perfect killing machine.

Kept leashed in the cellar by a master who is as ruthless as he is powerful, Pride dreams of freedom, of living a normal life, but escape from the compound is near impossible and disobedience comes with a price.

When she learns her master intends to breed her she knows she has to run.

Pride soon learns if she is to survive in the wild, she must trust in the boy who promises her freedom, the same boy she was sent to hunt.

With life and death hanging in the balance the two find themselves on the run from the Paranormal Task Force—officers who shoot first and ask questions later—as well as her master’s handlers.

Can Pride flee the man who has held her captive since birth and find sanctuary in the arms of a boy who has captured her heart? Or will her master find her first?

Thoughts: I have a soft spot for werewolf stories and this sounds so fun and also like a book that will keep me on the edge of my seat and glued to the pages.

Decision: Keep

When sixteen-year-old Jensen Meadows finds herself caught in the middle of an ancient faerie war, she soon learns that faeries aren't made of sparkly goodness. They're vicious. And worse, they're after her. With the help of Liam Casey, she delves into their world to find her missing sister and begins to suspect that her whole life has been nothing more than a faerie tale.

But what if the truth is worse?

Shimmerspell is a fast-paced novella, 22,000 words, 88 pages in paperback.

Thoughts: This story sounds cute and it's nice and quick. The problem? It's not anywhere. The links to this book on any site I could buy it have been removed.

Decision: Toss

Before Peter Pan belonged to Wendy, he belonged to the girl with the crow feather in her hair...

Fifteen-year-old Tiger Lily doesn't believe in love stories or happy endings. Then she meets the alluring teenage Peter Pan in the forbidden woods of Neverland and immediately falls under his spell.

Peter is unlike anyone she's ever known. Impetuous and brave, he both scares and enthralls her. As the leader of the Lost Boys, the most fearsome of Neverland's inhabitants, Peter is an unthinkable match for Tiger Lily. Soon, she is risking everything—her family, her future—to be with him. When she is faced with marriage to a terrible man in her own tribe, she must choose between the life she's always known and running away to an uncertain future with Peter.

With enemies threatening to tear them apart, the lovers seem doomed. But it's the arrival of Wendy Darling, an English girl who's everything Tiger Lily is not, that leads Tiger Lily to discover that the most dangerous enemies can live inside even the most loyal and loving heart.

From the New York Times, bestselling author of Peaches comes a magical and bewitching story of the romance between a fearless heroine and the boy who wouldn't grow up.

Thoughts: This book sounds very fun and I've heard nothing but good things. That being said I think I added it because everyone likes it and not because I found it on my own. I'm not a super fan of Peter Pan and this book seems like it doesn't end well.

Decision: Toss

For centuries, the Petrescu family has been protecting society from a danger that moves among the population undetected. Eighteen-year-old Vasi Petrescu has never had a problem carrying out his duty, but, when ordered to eliminate a seventeen-year-old girl, he is immediately taken out of his comfort zone.

The Syndicate has never targeted a female before, yet somehow this one has ended up on more than one hit list. Vasi would like to find out why, but there may not be time.

Now, he'll have to decide whether or not to keep her alive even if it means going against his own family.

The action, mystery, and conspiracy in The Syndicate will take readers on an immersing journey in which decisions are not only life-changing but irreversible.

Thoughts: This one has been on my shelves a long time and after so much time I feel like I've read several books very similar to this one.

Decision: Toss

I thought I knew myself. Then I met Caleb.

Dez is a good girl who does as she's told and tries not to be noticed. Then she rescues a boy from a cage, and he tells her secrets about herself. Now inside her burns a darkness that will transform her.

Everything is about to change--and neither Caleb, nor the Otherkin, nor those who hunt them, are prepared for what Dez will unleash.

Thoughts: I have mad love for this cover. I'm feeling very unsure about this one...

Decision: Keep for now.

For nearly a decade, Kasey Morris has dreamed about one man - the eccentric doctor who saved her life when she was twelve. Now, a Paladin, she’s charged with the daunting task of defending humanity from vampires, shapeshifters, and other supernatural creatures. There’s only one problem – she’s recently learned the man she loves isn’t human. And while her divine instincts regularly remind her he’s the exact kind of monster she’s supposed to guard against…her heart has a completely different agenda.

Vouclade Nelek has held many titles over the course of his existence. Healer, Scientist, Surgeon…Torturer. However, it’s been thousands of years since a woman has chosen him to be her Lover. Under normal circumstances, he’d simply decline her advances and redirect her attention to a more appropriate suitor. But this time his admirer is far from normal, and she possesses two dangerous traits that even someone of his station can’t ignore: determination…and true immortality.

She’s poised to prove love isn’t bound by age. He’s prepared to refute her every claim. Together, everyone agrees Kasey and Vouclade are a potential disaster in the making. But when forced apart – the devastating backlash may very well bring the entire supernatural world to its knees…once and for all.

Thoughts: This book sounds like a great read, but I cannot find it anywhere and it looks like the author has stopped writing.

Decision: Toss
