Blurb:
On the outside, seventeen-year-old Madelyne Summers looks like your typical blond cheerleader—perky, popular, and dating the star quarterback. But inside, Maddie spends more time agonizing over what will happen in the next issue of her favorite comic book than planning pep rallies with her squad. That she’s a nerd hiding in a popular girl’s body isn’t just unknown, it’s anti-known. And she needs to keep it that way.

Summer is the only time Maddie lets her real self out to play, but when she slips up and the adorkable guy behind the local comic shop’s counter uncovers her secret, she’s busted. Before she can shake a pom-pom, Maddie’s whisked into Logan’s world of comic conventions, live-action role-playing, and first-person-shooter video games. And she loves it. But the more she denies who she really is, the deeper her lies become…and the more she risks losing Logan forever.
Reese's Review:
Maddie was embarrassed and mocked for being a nerd once and she never wants that to happen again. Now she’s one of the most popular girls in school, dating the high school quarterback and hides her nerdiness in her closet behind all her clothes.

When one of her comic books doesn’t come in time she panics and heads to the local comic book shop where she finds her ultimate crush, Logan working. After barrowing and reading her comic book they begin to spend more time exploring their love of all things comics together, except now they have feelings.

I thought this book was fabulous and hilarious. My hubby and I enjoy comic books and now after this book I would so love to LARP (Live Action Role Play), because it sounds awesome. Being a nerd rules.

Anyway Maddie had been made fun of for dressing up as her favorite comic book superhero and so she tries to be something she’s not. While at first she’s okay with it after hanging out with Logan he realizes that being a nerd makes her happy. I really enjoyed reading about the lengths she would go through to make things right between her and Logan. Maddie is a pretty awesome character and I liked her a lot.

Logan is a cute guy who’s been burned before and doesn’t want to get hurt again. I enjoyed his character a lot since he’s so honest about himself and never tried to hide who he was. That is also a reason that Maddie liked him.

The Summer I Became a Nerd is definitely the perfect YA story of self-discovery. It’s about being yourself no matter what.

Go Nerds!
