Title: SEARCHING FOR BEAUTIFUL
Author: Nyrae Dawn
Publisher: Entangled Teen
Pub. Date: March 4, 2014
Before it happened…
Brynn had a group of best friends, a boyfriend who loved her, a growing talent for pottery. She had a life. And then…she had none.
After it happened…
Everything was lost. The boy she now knew never loved her. The friends who felt she betrayed their trust. The new life just beginning to grow inside her.
Brynn believes her future is as empty as her body until Christian, the boy next door, starts coming around. Playing his guitar and pushing her to create art once more. She meets some new friends at the local community center, plus even gets her dad to look her in the eye again…sort of. But letting someone in isn’t as easy as it seems.
Can Brynn open up her heart to truly find her life’s own beauty, when living for the after means letting go of the before?
Here on my blog with me today is Nyrae Dawn!!! Squeeel!!!
1. Where did you get the idea for Searching for Beautiful?
I don’t really remember what prompted the specific premise but I just wanted to write a book that felt important to me. I wanted to write a book for girls who might struggle with some of the things I did when I was a teenager. I wanted them to know that they’re beautiful, and that your mistakes don’t define you. I know sometimes we think they do, and when we screw up its easy to believe that means there’s something wrong with us, but it doesn’t. It means we’re human.
2. Who was the first person you told about your book after you finished it?
Probably my husband. After that it would have been Wendy Higgins.
3. If you wrote yourself in as a character do you think the book would have been different?
I love this question because this is how I see it. I’d like to think that if I wrote myself in things would have been different, that I would always know the right thing to do but the truth is, on the outside of a situation we see things differently than we do on the inside. Its easy to say I wouldn’t have done this or I would have done that but the reality is, we never really know. Everything is different when it’s your emotions tied to it rather than someone else’s.
4. What was the hardest part about writing this book?
The whole thing. LOL. I struggled a lot, off and on writing this one.
5. Did you always want to become a writer?
I’ve always loved writing. It’s been a part of my life since I was very young.
6. Is there a song or soundtrack that inspired you in the making of Searching for Beautiful?
There actually isn’t. I’m probably the only author in the world who rarely writes to music or rarely has a playlist.
7. Describe Searching for Beautiful in a few words.
A book about screwing up, growing up, pain, loss, love, and seeing your own beauty.
8. How is Searching for Beautiful different from your other books?
Another great question. I do think this book is different for me. There’s not boy POV, which is big for me. This book is also more about discovering who you are, and being confident, than it is about falling in love. Not that there isn’t romance, because there is. This is me we’re talking about her,e but the romance is lighter than it usually is in my books.
9. Which character was your favorite to write?
I loved Christian. I loved that he was just a sweet, nice boy.
10. I know you've written books from a boys pov before, is there a big difference when writing between the sexes?
I do think there is. I approach writing boys differently than I do girls, though its hard for me to say exactly how.

Writing has always been Nyrae Dawn’s passion. There have been times in her life where she wasn’t able to chase that dream the way she desired, but she always found her way back to telling stories.
One of her loves has always been writing about teens. There’s something so fresh and fun about the age that she loves exploring. Her husband says it’s because she doesn’t want to grow up. She doesn’t think that’s such a bad thing and luckily for her, he doesn’t either.
Nyrae gravitates toward character-driven stories. She loves going on emotional journeys with characters whether it be reading or writing. And yes, she’s a total romantic at heart and proud.
Nyrae resides in sunny Southern California with her husband (who still makes her swoon) and her two awesome kids.
When she’s not with her family, you can be pretty sure you’ll find her with a book in her hand or her laptop and an open document in front of her.
She writes for Entangled Publishing, Grand Central Publishing and is self-published.
Nyrae is represented by Jane Dystel of Dystel and Goderich Literary Management.
Nyrae Dawn also writes adult romance under the name Kelley Vitollo.Website: http://www.nyraedawn.com/
